| | | Under the agreement, US forces would be stationed at bases in Mardin Kızıltepe, Dicle, Oyalı, Nusaybin, Gaziantep, Oğuzeli, Birecik, Şanlıurfa and Viranşehir.
In the earlier information on the military agreement it was reported that US forces would only have access to one land base at Mardin Kızıltepe, and a number of military airbases. According to the newly released information, there will nine land bases in separate regions, at which up to 40,000 American soldiers would be stationed. While in Turkey, US troops would not be allowed to carry guns or wear their uniforms when not on military premises.
However, while the terms of the agreement have become clearer, the question of whether it will be implemented has yet to be settled, with the Turkish parliament yet to hold a second vote on whether to allow US forces to be deployed on Turkish soil. By a narrow margin the parliament last month rejected a motion to permit the US to station troops inside Turkey or to authorise the sending abroad of Turkish troops.
